Professional Training

Marta trained as a Clinical Psychologist, in Lisbon Portugal. Marta specialised working with children and families and Marta worked at Santa Maria's Hospital Paediatric ward in Lisbon, for a year, providing counselling and therapy to a broad range of in- and out-patients. Marta was a psychodynamically trained.

Marta continued her training in London at the Tavistock Clinic. She followed her passion for working with children and completed her MA in Psychoanalytical Observational Studies, where she further increased her expertise in child development within a Kleinian psychoanalytical frame of reference (with a 2 year baby observation module and a 1 year child observation module).

Marta worked in London both in private practice (adults /children), and as a counsellor in a Primary School in London.

Marta further her knowledge by working with Roger Woolger, Ph.D., Jungian analyst and the creator of Deep Memory Process. Marta trained as a DMP Therapist with, Roger Woolger, who supervised her work until he passed away in 2011. Marta is a Deep Memory Process (DMP) Therapist and Regression Therapist accredited by EARTh, the European Association of Regression Therapy. .

Marta incorporated Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT), in 2010, when Belle, a six-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, joined Marta’s practice. Belle retired in 2017.

Through the use of Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) the physical, social, emotional and cognitive functions are improved in the patient. AAT also provides educational and motivational effectiveness for participants. Helps the clients to relax and engage in the therapeutic process. 

Marta has also trained as an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprogramming) therapist with Sandi Richman and is a member of the EMDR Association UK and Ireland. Marta has become very skilled in working with complex trauma and PTSD in adults and adolescents.

Marta has been working in a CAMHS (Child Adolescent Mental Health Service) acute unite, since 2016. Marta is has become highly skilled working with PTSD and complex Trauma.

Marta is registered member of Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), wich sets and maintains standards of proficiency and conduct for health professionals it regulates. It is the highest level of membership a health professional can achieve and it is pre-determined professional requirement to work at NHS.

Marta is a member of the EMDR Association UK and Ireland.

Marta is accredited by ´Ordem dos Psicólogos Portuguesa-OPP'-The Portuguese Association of Psychologist- she is a permanent member. Her professional name is Marta Pires and her number is nº 19683. (www.ordemdospsicologos.pt)

Marta is a certified member of EARth: European Association of Regression Therapists (www.earth-association.org)

Marta was a board member of IDMA: International Deep Memory Association (www.idmassoc.org), from 2007 to 2011.
