Meet Marta

Marta M. Pires is a Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol), member of The British Psychological Society (BPS).

She qualified as a Clinical and Counselling Psychologist in Lisbon and holds a MA in Psychoanalytical Observational Studies from the Tavistock Clinic in London. 

Marta is a Deep Memory Process Therapist (DMP) . DMP is a regression therapy that helps to transform and release trauma from the body, mind and emotions in a single comprehensive process.

Marta further her knowledge by working with Roger Woolger, Ph.D., Jungian analyst and the creator of DMP. Marta is a DMP Therapist accredited by EARTh, the European Association of Regression Therapy. 

Marta is also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprogramming) and is a member of the EMDR Association UK and Ireland.

Marta is the clinical psychologist in CAMHS (Child Adolescent Mental Health Service) acute unite, since 2016. Marta is has become highly skilled working with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex trauma in adolescents and adults.

Marta uses EMDR, as it is one of only two modalities approved by the NHS, APA (American Psychological Association), US Defence Department and WHO (World Health Organisation) for treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). EMDR is also highly effective in other issues presented in therapy.

Marta provides ongoing therapeutic work with adults and children, adolescents and families, offering an integrative approach. In 2010 she introduced Animal Assisted Therapy and Belle, a Yorkshire Terrier, that assisted in all the sessions, until Belle retired in 2017. Marta is currently actively looking for a new therapy dog.

As flexibility is a key need in today´s busy lives, Marta offers schedules that adjust to each client needs, including phone or Skype sessions. She is able to offer ongoing therapy to frequent flyers and international clients, living and working all over the world.

Marta works in English and Portuguese and has a good understanding of Spanish.
